Midwives, Oranges, and Matzah Frisbee?!

With Passover fast approaching, now is a perfect time to think about the many roles of courageous women in historical and contemporary quests for freedom.

As a start, check out the Jewish Women's Archive's resource on Jewish midwives which highlights Shifra and Puah, two women who play a critical part in the Exodus story through their acts of resistance in sparing the lives of Hebrew male babies born in Egypt.

Curious about the "real" story behind the orange on the Seder plate? Check out the blog entry: "What's in an Orange?" Encourage your friends and family to join the conversation, or print it out to share at your own Seders!

Finally, as matzah's prejudicial rap of "tasting like cardboard" and "inducing week-long constipation" intensifies, Jewess singer-songwriter, Michelle Citrin, is committed to effecting positive change. She and her buddy, William Levin, have teamed up with Streit's Matzah to bring us the catchy Passover musical greeting, "20 things you can do with matzah" -- a powerful reclamation of matzah and its many innovative uses.

Matzah Frisbee, anyone?

Double your impact to amplify Jewish women’s stories—
All gifts matched up to $35,000

Before you close this article, please consider supporting the Jewish Women’s Archive and uplifting Jewish women’s voices.

At JWA, we preserve the voices of Jewish women and gender-expansive people past and present, share them freely with millions online, and empower a new generation of Jewish feminists to lead with courage, creativity, and conviction.

But none of this happens without you. JWA is an independent nonprofit— we rely on people, like you, who believe that history belongs to all of us and that the voices of Jewish women must remain powerful, and heard.

This month, a generous JWA board member will match every gift dollar for dollar—up to $35,000—through June 30. Your contribution goes twice as far right now.

Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us document, teach, and inspire through Jewish women’s stories.

It takes less than a minute to make a difference.
