Everyday I encounter a number of interesting websites, articles, and blog posts that are definitely worth mentioning. I hope you find these as interesting as I do!
- The National Council for Jewish Women has officially backed Sonia Sotomayor! NCJW President Nancy Ratzan said, "Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals is an eminently qualified jurist, who, throughout her legal career, has kept faith with the constitutional values of liberty, equality, and justice. She will be a welcome addition to the Supreme Court."
- What Would Buffy Do? I know this may be old news for some of you, but I just discoverd it and had to say something. Jonathan McIntosh, a self-proclaimed "aspiring feminist guy," created a mash-up video that combines footage from the Twilight movie and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series. Buffy, a feminist heroine, does not tolerate the advances of Edward, Twilight's supposedly-sexy vampire. It sheds light on the scary truth about Twilight - that Edward's creepy, controlling, manipulative and abusive behavior has been marketed as "love" to a generation of young women.
- The Last Taboo: Intermarried Rabbis. Julie Wiener, in a special to The Jewish Week, muses on the issue of intermarriage for rabbis. Also check out Rabbi Yaakov Menken's thoughts on the topic here. This is also interesting to think about considering Keren McGinity's insights on intermarriage in Still Jewish: A History of Women and Intermarriage in America. Just saw the film in NYC and really enjoyed it! It is wonderful, funny and heartwarming!
Nice to see video content linked into the JWA, like the recent Colbert Report clip on the Senate Judicial hearings. Makes checking the blog page much more fun - like a treasure hunt where you never know what you find.
